Sustaining Temple Judea: HHD Appeal

    09.26.23 | Stories, Articles

Each year on Yom Kippur, synagogues around the world pause for a High Holy Day Appeal – a generations-old tradition during which members like you embrace the vital Jewish mitzvah of tzedakah by supporting their synagogue.  If you’ve already contributed to this year's Appeal, we thank you. If you haven’t yet given, it’s not too late! There are deeply meaningful reasons for making your contribution today.

Yesterday, Rabbi Aaronson spoke about the synagogue’s role as the heart and soul of our Jewish community and about our obligations to the Jewish people.* While you may have come to Temple Judea to celebrate and observe a specific Jewish moment – to break the glass as you start a new union, welcome a baby with a naming ceremony, celebrate Jewish adulthood with a b’nei mitzvah, or mourn a loved one with Yizkor – a synagogue must stand ready for all of life’s moments, offering support and connection. When you support Temple Judea by giving generously, attending services, participating in programs, and engaging with one another, you ensure that your children, grandchildren, and their children after them will have a synagogue to call their own.

This community, this synagogue - and the people who surround you when you're here - are an inheritance passed down l'dor v'dor, from generation to generation. Even if you’re not a multi-generational Temple Judea family, you too, have inherited this synagogue and the traditions and rituals of the Jewish people, and they are now your legacy -- a gift to one another and future generations. A gift we must each protect and cherish to ensure our community and the Jewish people can grow and thrive in the coming years.

Now it’s your turn to give back to the place that teaches our children, memorializes our ancestors, supports us in times of sickness and loss, and celebrates simchas by our side. The Appeal campaign allows Temple Judea to bridge the gap between membership contributions and the true cost of operating a thriving synagogue. It underwrites regular, ongoing, and unexpected expenses, and is vital to reaching our budgetary goals so we can continue to provide quality programming, adult education, social action, musical excellence, and so every child receives the same quality of education and bar/bat mitzvah preparation without regard for ability to pay.

Please help us reach our goal by participating in our High Holy Day Appeal. Your gift - your involvement - matters to us. We hope you’ll make a financial contribution that is significant to you so we can ensure future generations of Jewish people in the San Fernando Valley will have this vibrant Reform synagogue to turn to when they need it.
