Rosh Chodesh

Tomorrow is Rosh Chodesh Av, the first day of the lunar month of Av. Rosh Chodesh, meaning "head of the month," has been observed since biblical times as a mini holiday: an ancient celebration tied to the cycle of the moon. Even today, Jews continue to mark the unique rhythm of our lunar calendar with special prayers, psalms and blessings for Rosh Chodesh.

Rosh Chodesh has a particular significance for Jewish women, and we know that throughout history, it has been a time for women to put aside their work and share stories, Jewish wisdom, and knowledge. This year, in honor of this ages-old tradition, the Women of Temple Judea are reviving the celebration of Rosh Chodesh with monthly programming that offers a powerful opportunity for women to gather, celebrate, and reconnect with their bodies, community, and spiritual practices. From yoga meditations to spiritual hikes, Hassidic study, health workshops, and Shabbat brunches, in defiance of this modern stress-filled world, Temple Judea’s Rosh Chodesh events will offer an array of activities that prioritize self-care, friendship and connection, and will embrace holistic well-being through a uniquely Jewish lens.

Whether planning your wedding, chasing little ones at home, preparing for an empty nest, or enjoying the busy season of retirement, women at all phases of life don’t often take the time to re-charge. Rosh Chodesh provides a safe and inclusive space to come together, find inspiration, be uplifted and empowered, and rediscover the wisdom of Jewish traditions.

Keep an eye out for more details about our Rosh Chodesh events in the coming weeks. We hope you will join us at one, many, or all of these events, so you can experience for yourself the beauty of Rosh Chodesh in a whole new light! For more information, contact .
