First Girls' Night Out Brings Laughter to Temple Judea
Martinis and Humor was the theme of this year's first Girl's Night Out event, held on November 1 in our new social hall, with more than 60 women enjoying the opportunity to connect and relax with temple friends. The evening began with cosmopolitans, lemon drop martinis and a beautiful array of refreshments as Rabbi Karen Bender spoke to the group about the varied styles of Jewish humor. Our featured headliners were two fantastic professional comediennes who entertained the group with hilarious jokes and stories about motherhood and marriage. First up on the program was comedienne and actress Wendy Hammers, whose resume includes numerous film and TV roles including Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Bernie Mac Show. Wendy was brought to our synagogue by her good friend, Temple Judea member Stephanie Blum Federbush who hosts an internet comedy radio show along with her husband. Both Wendy and Stephanie had the audience rolling with laughter as they regaled us with funny stories of modern Jewish life.
Girls' Night Out is held three times each year for temple women to meet new and old friends and to enjoy spending time on themselves. Next on the agenda is an evening at Color Me Mine in Encino on January 24, 2012, followed by GNO Surprise Night, a pre-Mother's Day Adventure that begins at temple and leads somewhere special. Check on our website for more information and to sign up for these great evenings.
