This year, we’ve made a shift in our Hebrew program. In fall 2016, the Hebrew through Movement curriculum and Hebrew infusion will begin in 4th grade. Hebrew through Movement is a fantastic curriculum that we piloted this past year in 4th grade. It focuses on teaching students familiarity with Hebrew letters, sounds, and vocabulary, by teaching them Modern Hebrew commands requiring them to do the action associated with the command (i.e., jump, sit, stand, spin, run, walk, stop). Hebrew “infusion exposes students to fragments of Hebrew through a different primary language of interaction (in our case, English). The goal of infusion is not language proficiency, but a sense of connection to the language and to others who share that connection. Hebrew infusion can be found in various forms and to varying extents at most of the 160+ Jewish residential summer camps in North America” (Shavelson, Brandeis). In fifth and sixth grade students will begin Hebrew study focused on B’nei Mitzvah preparation. This will require enrollment in one of our Hebrew Studies options. This year, we are excited to introduce online Hebrew studies! See the Hebrew Studies options below to see what appeals to your family.
