Ellen Israel- President
Ellen is honored and humbled to be Temple Judea's Board President. She has served on the Board in many capacities, including two years as VP of Finance and Development and three years as VP of Personnel. She is also chair of Judeans for Justice, our Social Justice committee. Besides these experiences, she brings to the Board her training as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and her love for Temple Judea. Her husband, Stuart, 26 year old daughter, Brooke and 22 year old son, Holden have enjoyed their 16+ years of membership at TJ, and look forward to sharing many more memorable and rewarding experiences with their Temple community. #jewishmoments
Gail Aspinwall- Executive Vice President
A member of Temple Judea since 1991, Gail has served on the Board of Trustees in a variety of positions including Secretary, VP/Education, Communications Chair, Havurah Chair and is currently editor of the Judean. She has also served on numerous committees including Personnel Practices, Finance, Nominating, Education, Cantorial Search, and Communications. In her professional life, Gail is a public relations/marketing writer for law firms and real estate companies. She resides in Calabasas with her daughter, Jennifer, and son, Michael, and enjoys music, travel and volunteering at Our House Grief Foundation, UCLA, and of course, Temple Judea. The synagogue has been a vital part of her family's life and she is forever grateful for the wonderful friends and community she has found here.
Bill Harris- Vice President, Finance & Development
Bill is glad to be serving the Temple Judea Board as its VP of Finance. This will be his seventh year as part of the board. Bill is a Managing Director in the Business Management Group at Nigro Karlin Segal Feldstein & Bolno, LLC. He is responsible for providing business and financial management services to clients in film, television, music and sports, in addition to his work with entrepreneurs and small business owners. Prior to joining the Business Management community, Bill spent nine years in programming finance with HBO. Bill, Alysa, and daughters Amy, Rachel, and Lindsay have been part of the Temple Judea community for about 17 years. He received his Bachelors of Science from California State University, Northridge with a dual emphasis in Accounting and Finance.
Megan Fischer- Vice President, Education
Judy Rutt- Vice President, Membership Engagement
Judy and her husband David have a long time attachment with Temple Judea, having been married there in 1983. Judy is very active in the temple. She has served as chair or co-chair of the music committee for the past 4 years. Judy has also been very active in membership this year, as she has been the trustee for membership. She was co- chairman of the installation ceremony and reception for our new rabbi and the board. Judy has also been active in ONE Generation (local non profit organization serving the elderly) as chairman of one of the major fund raising events for 8 years. She has 2 grown children, Teddy and Tracy and 2 grandchildren, Jonah and Asher. Professionally, she was a sales account representative for a major jean company and buyer for many years at Macys and other major department stores.
Ron Milman - Vice President, Membership Outreach
Ron is thrilled to be serving as Vice President, Membership Outreach. As an Executive Recruiter, he is able to do what he loves every day, which is interacting with people and helping to change lives for the better. Doing the same type of work for the temple not only helps to strengthen our community, but helps to enrich the lives of Jewish families. He feels that being a part of the leadership of this great community of Temple Judea allows him to help make a positive contribution and to assist others as well. This will be his fourth term on the board, and he plans to continue to serve the temple for many years to come. Ron is the father of two amazing daughters who drive him to always be the best he can be. Hailey is a student at the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!), and Cami is at Chaminade High School (Go Eagles). His other interests include practicing martial arts and a lifetime passion and love for Dodger baseball (Go Blue!).
Karen Twersky - Vice President, Personnel
Karen is enthusiastic about her new position as VP of Personnel, in addition to her previous positions as VP of membership for 8 years, as well as Executive VP of the congregation. Her involvement at Temple Judea began in the ECC, she chaired women’s retreats, was a mentor for new families, chaired the “Celebrate our Legacy” event closing Tarzana sanctuary and the Launch Committee for reopening week. She is currently a member of Caring Community, finance committee and governance committee. Professionally, she is a CPA, previously worked for an international accounting firm, then moved into private industry for several years prior to starting her own practice. She is blessed with a loving, supportive and growing family, her husband Steve and three children, and the newest addition to the family, a beautiful grandson.
Dani Rogers - Secretary
Dani Rogers has been a member of Temple Judea for over 20 years. Dani has spent countless hours volunteering on a wide variety of committees over the past 20 years, served for two years on the Board of the Women of Temple Judea as Chair of the Catering Kids program, has served on the Board of Trustees as Chair of the Adult Education Committee, and is excited about taking on the role of Secretary. Dani loves being involved in Temple life at all levels and is proud to call Temple Judea home. Her husband Michael is her biggest supporter. Dani has two kids, Andrew and Rachel, who grew up at Temple Judea and who have both flown the nest.
Todd Cobin- Treasurer
Todd has been involved at Temple Judea for over 35 years, and he has served on the Board of Trustees for over 10 years. In addition to having his Bar Mitzvah at Temple Judea and being Temple Judea’s Director of Administration for 3 years, Todd served as Temple Judea’s Vice President of Finance and Development, Temple Treasurer, Temple Secretary, and as a member of the Legacy Cabinet. “Temple Judea has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I plan to stay involved for the rest of my life.” Todd lives in Woodland Hills with his wife Barbara, his son Drew, and his daughter Shayna.
Teri Levin- Immediate Past President
Throughout her 25+ years as a temple member, Teri has enjoyed serving in many capacities on the Board of Trustees, including Purim Carnival co-chair, ECC Liaison, Secretary, Treasurer, VP Personnel Practices, Executive Vice President, and President. Teri loves spending time with her children, Ben and Devan, exercising, reading, learning, helping make the world a better place, and being creative through writing and music. In addition to volunteering, over the past few years, Teri has earned a certificate as a paraprofessional counselor from the Wagner program and one in grant writing from The Grantsmanship Center. In anticipation of her free time as Immediate Past President, she has enrolled in the intensive Paralegal Training Program through UCLA Extension.
Judith loves being active in the community life of Temple Judea. While she has only been a temple member for a few years, she has found a place of religious observance, social action, and community involvement. Her activities have included the Caring Community, Temple Greeters, membership, and Leadership Development as well as providing a “willing hand for what needs to be done." She has always loved Jewish life. Raised orthodox (Chasidic), she attended Hebrew day school but always knew there must be another way. She has seen that the joy of the temple flows through the clergy, the administration, as well as the congregants. Her intent on the board is to help grow membership since she sincerely believes every Jew should have a temple affiliation. She hopes to lend her professional expertise as an organizational development consultant to support temple growth and development.
Janet started in Mommy and Me with her son Adam in 2009 and has become very active in the Temple Judea community serving on several committees including; the Purim Committee, the Education Committee and Task Force, the Assistant Rabbi Search Committee and the Nominating Committee. She is also active in the ECC where she wears several Committee hats. She is kept very busy with her son Adam who is a proud graduate of the ECC and currently enrolled in Religious School. Her daughter Sarah is about to complete her final year of the ECC in the Gesher program. As sad as she is to be leaving the Early Childhood Center, she is excited for the next chapter. Outside of her temple life, Janet has become very active in A Magic Penny which is a non-profit organization that dedicates itself to teaching young children about community service and philanthropy, by getting families involved in various areas of service. Janet and her husband Steve have been married for 11 years and feel very fortunate and blessed to have become a part of the Temple Judea community.
Gail Browdy has been a member of Temple Judea for 19 years. She is currently the vice president of membership for the Women of Temple Judea. She also serves on the Caring Community committee. She loves our temple community and is excited to be returning to the board as a trustee. She has 2 children -Neal who works in social media and Melanie who is a fashion designer and is currently at the University of LaVerne getting her business degree.
Greg is honored and humbled to be on Temple Judea's Board. He has served on the Rabbi Search committee; currently a co-chair of TJ’s Visionary Award and has been an active contributor to Temple Judea for over 23 years. In addition to his service to TJ, he has been active in many community organizations, including VP of Baseball Operations at West Hill Baseball, the ARM industry and is currently serving as the President of the IACC, recent recipient of the Commercial Law League of America’s annual President Cup. His wife, Chris, and their 4 children, sons Zac, Jake, Matt and daughter Cami have shared many blessed events at TJ.
Barri Worth Girvan
Barri Worth Girvan grew up at Temple Judea. She has been a member since she started religious school in 4th grade, and it is where she and her husband, Greg, were married in 2012. Barri is the District Director for California State Senator and former Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg, where she manages the Senator’s Los Angeles office in the San Fernando Valley. She has also served in City government, previously working for former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, both in the Valley and at L.A. City Hall. After she left City Hall she handled government relations for The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. Barri holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a minor in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, and a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. Barri and Greg love to travel the world togethe, but also love the San Fernando Valley community.
Rob is proud to be a member of the Board of Trustees for the 2017-2018 year. He and his wife Rena have been members of Temple Judea since 2002. After graduating from Wharton in 1987 and a short stint on Wall Street, Rob came to Los Angeles with his entire family, and started a career as a Television Agent. 5 years ago Rob left the Agent world to begin producing. He has been involved in several Israeli television shows adapted for the US market. Rena and Rob have two teenage daughters, Gabrielle (17) and Nicole (15) who both started at the ECC and became a Bat Mitzvah a decade later. Rob is involved in AIPAC with his daughter Gabrielle who is also an advocate for the State of Israel. Rob and his family reside in Encino.
Alan has been a member for two years. He has been active as an Ambassador usher for services and other temple events. He is the Secretary of the Brotherhood, and Chair of the Men's retreat. Alan sits on the nominating and membership committees. He feels that this is a wonderful, warm, inviting environment which he felt the first time he attended services here. He wants to make sure everyone feels welcome here. Alan is married to Beth who is also active with the sisterhood. Together they have three children - Alyssa, Gabi and Joshua. Alan sits on the board of directors of New Horizons center for the developmentally disabled. He is owner of Goodstein Wealth Management, and is a certified financial planner. He hopes he can help everyone love this community like his family does.
Jennifer and her family have been members of Temple Judea for almost two decades. In addition to serving on the Board, she is chair of the Social Action committee, on which she has served for many years. She is also active in fundraising for various Crohn’s & colitis charities, and has walked several half-marathons. Jennifer has a master’s degree in Library Science and works as a school librarian at Campbell Hall. She met her husband Jeff, a senior vice president at Fox Networks, at a UCLA basketball game in 1989 and both continue to be die-hard Bruin fans. They have two daughters: Sarah, a college freshman, and Brenna, a high school sophomore.
Tracey joined Temple Judea almost 20 years ago to enroll her children in religious school. She quickly joined the Board of Women of Temple Judea and served WTJ in a variety of capacities over the years, having just completed two years as its President. Tracey has also served on the Membership, Adult Education and Purim Carnival Committees. She worked for the California Legislature and currently has a political reporting/consulting business. She also serves on the Board of the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center and the National Women’s Political Caucus. Tracey recently started a Mah Jongg blog, and brought Mah Jongg to the temple, starting lessons through WTJ, and instituting the annual Mah Jongg Tournament. Temple Judea’s welcoming atmosphere led to Tracey’s children converting to Judaism, leading to their B’nai Mitzvah and Confirmation. Her daughter, Kathleen, Sous Chef at Ruth’s Chris Steak house, runs Sisterhood’s Kiddush lunches for Bar and Bat Mitzvah families. Tracey and her husband Steve traveled to Israel with Temple Judea several years ago, forming lasting friendships with other Temple Judea families.
Brad Rosenberg and his wife Morgana have been members of Temple Judea for over four years. Their children Ofilia, age five, and Cora, age four, both started taking classes in the Parenting Center and are now graduates and entering the Gesher program of the ECC. Brad helps run the ECC Book Fair every year and is regularly involved in other ECC activities. For years, Brad could be found working in the temple lobby during ECC hours, but now works in Beverly Hills at The Rothman Brecher Agency (a TV Literary agency.) Brad is honored to serve on the Temple Board and looks forward to helping grow the Temple community.
Glenn joined Temple Judea with his wife, Bonnie, in 2006. Their daughters, Jenna and Rebecca, attend the religious school. He was slow to become a more active member, but has loved the TJ community from day one and is honored to do his small part to help TJ thrive. He has been on the Purim Committee and the Board Nominating Committee and is now trying to help membership, among other things. The Summer family lives in Calabasas. Glenn is an Assistant General Manager with Lieberman Research Worldwide (a consumer market research firm), and his wife Bonnie owns the local Caring Transitions franchise which primarily helps seniors with downsizing and relocation.
David Terk has been a member of Temple Judea for six years. As the proud father of Fiona, age six, and Isley, age 1, David is regularly involved in ECC activities. He currently is active on the Membership Committee to engage current members and works with Temple Judea in developing the Welcome Home Kabbalat Shabbat service for the special needs community. Professionally David is a Special Needs Planner helping families to ensure a smooth legal, financial and emotional transition for their loved ones. When not working David enjoys cooking and music. David is honored to serve on the Temple Board and looks forward to helping keep Judea an ideal community for his family.
