Gail Aspinwall - President
A member of Temple Judea since 1991, Gail has served on the Board of Trustees in a variety of positions including Executive Vice President, Secretary, VP/Education, Communications Chair, Havurah Chair and is currently editor of the Judean. She has also served on numerous committees including Personnel Practices, Finance, Nominating, Education, Cantorial Search, and Communications. In her professional life, Gail is a public relations/marketing writer for law firms and real estate companies. She resides in Calabasas with her daughter, Jennifer, and son, Michael, and enjoys music, travel and volunteering at Our House Grief Foundation, UCLA, and of course, Temple Judea. The synagogue has been a vital part of her family's life and she is forever grateful for the wonderful friends and community she has found here.
Dani Rogers- Executive Vice President
Dani joined Temple Judea with her husband Michael in 1994 when their son Andrew started at the ECC. Dani has been involved as a volunteer in many aspects of Temple life and even became an adult B’Nai Mitzvah in 2014. Dani has been a Board member for several years, as a Trustee chairing Adult Education and as Secretary. Dani is very excited and honored to be taking on a new role as Executive Vice President working with Temple Judea’s outstanding President and wonderful and talented clergy and senior staff. When Dani is not at Temple Judea she is working as a civil trial attorney, reading books, binge-watching Netflix shows, doing yoga, walking her dog Sandy, and/or cooking and drinking wine. Dani also loves to travel with her husband (and on occasion with the adult kids).
Brad Rosenberg- Vice President, Education
Brad Rosenberg and his wife Morgana have been members of Temple Judea for over six years. Their children Ofilia, age seven, and Cora, age six, both started taking classes in the Parenting Center, are graduates of the ECC, attend Religious School and are performers in the Purim Schpiel and the Pop-Up Choir. Brad became active in the Temple via the ECC Book Fair and on the membership committee. Brad works at Rothman Brecher Ehrich Livingston, a TV Literary agency in Beverly Hills. Brad is honored to serve on the Temple Board and looks forward to working with Rabbi Raff, Lisa and all the wonderful educators to provide a fun, creative and meaningful Jewish education for all ages of kids in our community.
Greg Cohen- Vice President, Finance & Development
Greg, Chris, and their four children, have been active and involved members of Temple Judea since 1994, when the children were enrolled in the Early Childhood Program. Chris volunteered in many capacities and now Greg is proud to serve in senior leadership.
Glenn Summer- Vice President, Membership Engagement
Glenn joined Temple Judea with his wife, Bonnie, in 2006. Their daughters, Jenna and Rebecca, attend the religious school. He was slow to become a more active member, but has loved the TJ community from day one and is honored to do his small part to help TJ thrive. He has been on the Purim Committee and the Board Nominating Committee, and turned his attention to focus on Membership the last few years. The Summer family lives in Calabasas. Glenn is an Assistant General Manager with Lieberman Research Worldwide (a consumer market research firm), and his wife Bonnie is a senior living advisor for A Place For Mom.
Neil Rotter - Vice President, Membership Outreach
Neil Rotter joined Temple Judea's Board of Trustee with the goal of giving back more than he receives from this amazing congregation and its member community. Neil, his wife Allison, and his children (Jake 18 & Lily 16) have been Temple members since 2011. The whole family actively participates in Temple Judea Social Action activities. In his professional life, Neil serves as the Chief Strategy Officer at Accredited Home Health Services in Woodland Hills, CA. He holds Master's Degrees in both Gerontology and Social Work (with an emphasis on Community Organization, Planning & Administration). He hopes his professional experience will positively impact Temple Judea as it continues to grow its membership and member engagement. The Rotter family enjoys weekends in Oxnard, travelling, and eating (Neil's hobby is healthy cooking for his family).
Karen Twersky - Vice President, Personnel
Karen is enthusiastic about her new position as VP of Personnel, in addition to her previous positions as VP of membership for 8 years, as well as Executive VP of the congregation. Her involvement at Temple Judea began in the ECC, she chaired women’s retreats, was a mentor for new families, chaired the “Celebrate our Legacy” event closing Tarzana sanctuary and the Launch Committee for reopening week. She is currently a member of Caring Community, Executive committee and, of course, chairs the Personnel committee. Professionally, she is a CPA, previously worked for an international accounting firm, then moved into private industry for several years prior to starting her own practice. She is blessed with a loving, supportive and growing family, her husband Steve and three children, and the newest addition to the family, a beautiful grandson.
Judy Rutt - Secretary
Judy and her husband David have a long time attachment with Temple Judea, having been married there in 1983. Judy is very active in the temple. She has served as chair or co-chair of the music committee, membership, installation of our new clergy, Social Justice, the Citizenship program, and is currently chair of the Catering Committee. She has 2 grown children, Teddy and Tracy and 2 grandchildren, Jonah and Asher. Professionally, she was a sales account representative for a major jean company and buyer for many years at Macys and other major department stores.
Todd Cobin- Treasurer
Todd has been involved at Temple Judea for over 35 years, and he has served on the Board of Trustees for over 11 years. In addition to having his Bar Mitzvah at Temple Judea and being Temple Judea’s Director of Administration for 3 years, Todd served as Temple Judea’s Vice President of Finance and Development, Temple Treasurer, Temple Secretary, and as a member of the Legacy Cabinet. “Temple Judea has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I plan to stay involved for the rest of my life.” Todd lives in Woodland Hills with his wife Barbara, his son Drew, and his daughter Shayna.
Ellen Israel- Immediate Past President
Ellen is honored and proud to have served as Temple Board President and is now humbled to be the Immediate Past President. Ellen is passionate about social justice and is involved with Judeans for Justice, including community organizing. Her husband, Stuart, 28 year old daughter Brooke, and 24 year old son Holden have been temple members for 19 years and look forward to sharing many more memorable and rewarding experiences with their Temple Judea community #jewishmoments.
Judith loves being active in the community life of Temple Judea. While she has only been a temple member for a few years, she has found a place of religious observance, social action, and community involvement. Her activities have included the Caring Community, Temple Greeters, membership, and Leadership Development as well as providing a “willing hand for what needs to be done." She has always loved Jewish life. Raised orthodox (Chasidic), she attended Hebrew day school but always knew there must be another way. She has seen that the joy of the temple flows through the clergy, the administration, as well as the congregants. Her intent on the board is to help grow membership since she sincerely believes every Jew should have a temple affiliation. She hopes to lend her professional expertise as an organizational development consultant to support temple growth and development.
Janet Bornstein - BIO TO COME
Gail had been a member of Temple Judea for 20 years. She is currently the Vice President of Membership for the Women of Temple Judea and also serves on the caring community. Gail loves our temple community and is excited to be returning to the board as a trustee. She has two children - Neal who works in social media and Melanie who is a fashion designer and just received her Bachelor's degree in Business and is currently working as an executive assistant.
Janette and her family have been members of Temple Judea for over eight years. Together with her husband, Marc, she has three daughters: Hannah (15), Emma (9) and Julia (6). Both Emma and Julia started in the Mommy and Me program, went to nursery school in the ECC, graduated from Gesher, attended Camp Zehut and are now currently enrolled in religious school. Temple Judea has provided a wonderful community and home for the Fishman family and, as a result, Janette has dedicated herself and her time to giving back. From delivering challah each Friday to the ECC, chairing the ECC's Silent Auction and Father's Day Breakfasts three years in a row, delivering challah to new Temple Judea members, serving on the Purim Committee and the Temple Board, Janette is honored to help Temple Judea and all the families within.
Barri Worth Girvan
Barri Worth Girvan grew up at Temple Judea. She has been a member since she started religious school in 4th grade, and it is where she and her husband, Greg, were married in 2012. Barri is the Deputy Chief of Staff for California State Senate Majority Leader and former Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg, where she manages the Senator’s Los Angeles office in the San Fernando Valley. She has also served in City government, previously working for former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, both in the Valley and at L.A. City Hall. After she left City Hall she handled government relations for The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. Barri holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a minor in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, and a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. Barri and Greg have a daughter, who recently began classes at the Parenting Center, and they are thrilled to be raising their daughter in the Temple Judea community.
Rob is proud to be a member of the Board of Trustees for the 2019-2020 year. He and his wife Rena have been members of Temple Judea since 2002. After graduating from Wharton in 1987 and a short stint on Wall Street, Rob came to Los Angeles with his entire family, and started a career as a Television Agent. 7 years ago Rob left the Agent world to begin producing. He has been involved in several Israeli television shows adapted for the US market, including the upcoming Showtime Series “Your Honor” starring Bryan Cranston. Rena and Rob have two teenage daughters, Gabrielle (18) and Nicole (16) who both started at the ECC and became a Bat Mitzvah a decade later. Rob is involved in AIPAC with his daughter Gabrielle who is also an advocate for the State of Israel. Rob and his family reside in Encino.
Alan has been a member for three years. He has been active as an Ambassador usher for services and other temple events. He is the Secretary of the Brotherhood, and Chair of the Men's retreat. Alan sits on the nominating and membership committees. He feels that this is a wonderful, warm, inviting environment which he felt the first time he attended services here. He wants to make sure everyone feels welcome here. Alan is married to Beth who is also active with the sisterhood. Together they have three children - Alyssa, Gabi and Joshua. Alan sits on the board of directors of New Horizons center for the developmentally disabled. He is owner of Goodstein Wealth Management, and is a certified financial planner. He hopes he can help everyone love this community like his family does.
Gary Krausz joined Temple Judea in 2004 with his wife, Caryn and their two daughters, Kailey (17) and Amanda (14). Both daughters participate actively in temple music and special holiday programs. Temple life has been a very important part of their lives and they enjoy the rich traditions that Temple Judea carries forward. Gary is both a Certified Public Accountant specializing in audit and forensic investigations, and an accounting instructor teaching courses at UCLA. When not working or teaching, he is an avid baseball fan. As a family, they enjoy traveling, hiking, musical theatre, and spending time with friends and family. Gary has previously served on the board of various nonprofit organizations.
Tracey grew up in Sherman Oaks and got her first taste of Judaism and temple life when her family joined Temple Beth Hillel, where she was Bat Mitzvahed and confirmed. When Tracey was married with children, she wanted her two daughters to have the same opportunity for a Jewish education that she had, so she and her husband Steve joined Temple Judea. Tracey has been a member of Women of Temple Judea for approximately 20 years and is convinced that getting involved in Sisterhood was one of the best choices she’s ever made. She has enjoyed being part of a team of committed, dedicated women who always find ways to make a difference in their temple community and in the community at large. She has made lifelong friends through Sisterhood and has enjoyed meeting women from other sisterhoods and learning from them. Tracey has served in virtually every capacity on Women of Temple Judea’s board, most recently as President, and now as Executive Vice President. She has worked in local and state politics for 30 years and is currently a Political Treasurer. In addition to playing Mah Jongg (whenever she can), Tracey is currently a member of the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council and the Board of Directors of the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center. Last year she was asked to join Women of Reform Judaism Pacific District’s Board of Directors as an Area Director and is excited to be working alongside so many incredible and accomplished women.
Jay Schlanger and his wife Lydia, have been members of Temple Judea for over 20 years. His two youngest sons became Bar Mitzvah here. Temple Judea has been with us through all the good times and hard times that families go through. Jay is an Optometrist, practicing in Encino for over 14 year, and before that, at Cedar Sinai for 17 years. He has been on many boards during his professional life. Presently, he is on the board of managers for the West Valley Y. Jay does volunteer work as well at MEND, seeing patients for free eye exams monthly. At the temple, he is a member of the Brotherhood, and a member of the Social Action Committee as well. He is honored for the opportunity to serve on the Temple board and is looking forward to continue making Temple Judea a very special place to belong.
David Terk has been a member of Temple Judea since 2011. As the proud father of two daughters Fiona and Isley, David is regularly involved in ECC and Religious School activities. He currently is active on the Membership Committee, engaging current and prospective members. Professionally, David works in the special needs community as a Special Needs Planner helping families to ensure a smooth legal, financial and emotional transition for their loved ones. When not working, David enjoys cooking, gardening, and music. David is honored to serve on the Temple Board and looks forward to maintaining Temple Judea as an ideal community for his family.
Arthur, Adrienne, and their children Henry and Chloe, joined Temple Judea in 1999. The children participated in Religious School, while Arthur and Adrienne were busy with their careers and making new friends at temple. Arthur became involved in the Purim Carnival and served as chair for the past two years, and continues to love teaching Religious School on Sundays. During the work week, Arthur is a trial attorney and Adrienne is a writer.
